NYC Landmarks/Christmas at Lincoln Center
Christmas at Lincoln Center is a very special event that attracts millions of visitors every year. For almost 20 years from the end of November to the beginning of January Spectacular Christmas tree was standing in the Center of Lincoln Plaza. Unfortunately it is not there for the Christmas Season 2009. There are different versions about it disappearing – economy, construction and such, but the fact is - the Lincoln Tree is missing in action.
Every year, Lincoln Christmas Tree, one of the few “main” trees of New York City, was officially lit during an event called “A Winters Eve.” Unlike the Rockefeller Center Tree, Christmas decorations of the Lincoln Tree were focused more on art and performance. That’s why it was called “The most Artistic Tree in the world”.
This year Lincoln Center celebrates its 50th Anniversary – year long event including exhibitions, performances and special events. In 1959 the idea of developing Art Center in New York City was considered pretty radical but 50 years later it is a leading Performing Arts center in the world and attracts around 5 million visitors a year.
Lincoln Center is a huge complex composed of few world famous companies like Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The Juilliard School, The Metropolitan Opera, Jazz at Lincoln Center and many others. You can find more information at www.lincolncenter.org – official Lincoln Center website.
Hopefully Lincoln Tree will be returned for the next year’s Christmas Season. Meanwhile take a look at Lincoln Center Christmas Tree Ornament and Christmas Greeting Card we are featuring in our collection.
