Constructed in the early 1930's, at the heart of the great depression by John D. Rockefeller, the Rockefeller Center quickly became a major New York attraction. Perfectly embodying holiday spirit, it became a symbol of the American Christmas.
Nowadays, no trip to New York during the Holiday season is complete without a visit. Guaranteed, it will whip you into the celebrating mode - regardless of how your day was. Just think about those workers who, in spite of empty pockets and the threat that they wouldn't have food for their family that night, defiantly erected the first Christmas tree in 1931.
Every year, long before the Holiday Season starts, the manager of the Rockefeller Center Gardens begin looking for the perfect tree. Sometimes Christmas Tree is shipped from as far away as Canada. The Evergreen must be between 75' and 100' tall and usually decorated with more than 30,000 lights. |
